Retail Therapy – A Closer Look at La Provence In Rockport, MA
One of the best things about Rockport is the abundance of locally owned and operated shops to peruse and get your retail therapy fix! From art galleries, to clothing retailers, to talented local artisans, shopping in Rockport has never been better.
One of our favorite Rockport shops is La Provence!
The shop provides a small escape to the South of France right here in Rockport, Massachusetts! The shop was actually founded in 1997 by Frenchman Jean Francois Sierra and his American partner, Bill Chisolm, an artist by trade.
Where is Provence? Well, Provence is located in the South of France. It has a comfortable climate, stunning landscape, impressive architecture, and romance for days.
Like Rockport, it has a picturesque coastline with incredible beaches in Cannes, Marseille, and of course St. Tropez (with its famous Pampelonne beach). It’s no wonder why it served as an inspiration for the shop!
In 2006, the partners entrusted Dawn Noble with the shop and she hasn’t looked back. Dawn, a Francophile and wanderlust, was the perfect fit. Inspired by her European travels, Dawn has curated a warm and vibrant collection of French flavor.
The store brings the colors and flavor of France to Rockport with authentic French soaps, perfumes, tablecloths, aprons, placemats, napkins and dishes.
Many of the the products in the store are imported directly from France. Brands carried by the shop include Pre de Provence, Roger & Gallet, La Lavande, Panier des Sens, La Rochere, Carbonel Santons and Michel Design Works.
If you visit Rockport, a stop at La Provence is an absolute must. We’d recommend making a day of shopping downtown in Dock Square and historic Bearskin Neck.
