The 9 Best Takeout Restaurants On Cape Ann Massachusetts

Best Takeout In Rockport & Gloucester, MA

So instead of Sunday meal prep, you chose to enjoy your life and now it’s Tuesday night, it’s already been a long week, and hanger is rising up faster than an orc fleeing the sunlight (yeah we’ve gone down the Rings of Power rabbit hole).

Sound familiar? Well, don’t worry, Cape Ann has an incredible number of restaurants and takeout options to choose from, many of which will deliver their tasty treats directly to your doorstep. In this article, we will share our 9 favorite takeout restaurants on Cape Ann.

Breakwater Poke

If there is one meal that we could eat every day for the rest of our lives it would sushi. It’s fresh, healthy, filling and so tasty. Now poke is really just sushi in bowl form and the team at Breakwater Poke in Gloucester churn out some incredibly tasty bowls.

You can choose from a variety of signature bowls on the menu, or brave souls can embrace their inner iron chef build their own custom bowl.

We love the Back Shore Bowl which comes with ahi tuna, green onion, spicy poke sauce, cucumber, edamame, spicy crab salad sesame seeds, avocado, tempura flakes and spicy aioli. The Breakwater staff is super friendly, and the portions are substantial, providing the perfect healthy lunch or tasty dinner.

Breakwater Poke is located 7 Pleasant Street, just off Main Street in downtown Gloucester.

Markouk Bread

Ok so we have a confession to make. We drove by Markouk for years and always thought it was a bake shop. We actually learned of this place when one of our guests’ ordered takeout. The food looked so incredible that we ordered a few days later…and we have to say that it did not disappoint.

Markouk serves up some delicious, authentic Lebanese cuisine. This is no post-concert parking lot falafel. This food kicks the flavor bus into overdrive. Everything from the falafel to the grape leaves and lamb kabobs are on another level.

We definitely have more to explore on this menu, but if you are looking for something delicious, healthy, and a little outside the takeout box you should give Markouk a shot.

You can either pickup right outside their main street shop or get it delivered to your doorstep through Delivery Shark.

Jalapeno’s

Mexican food is really the perfect takeout food. It’s quick, easy, inexpensive, and delicious. Jalapeno’s restaurant on Main Street in Gloucester serves up some hearty, authentic Mexican fare that is sure to satisfy.

We love the chicken mole, and we love getting the street tacos on Taco Tuesdays when they are discounted. They give you the option of flour or corn tortillas and the tacos always hit the spot. After a long day of work, 2-4 street tacos really bring you back from the brink of committing hanger-related offenses.

But if you order from Jalapenos, be sure to get yourself a container of Gary’s dip (you can thank us later). This queso dip is so ridiculously tasty that you will start putting it on everything that you ordered and maybe even some things that you didn’t order.

Surfside Subs

Cape Ann locals definitely know about Surfside Subs, but this place is a bit of a hidden gem for visitors to Rockport and Gloucester. Located over by Long Beach, Surfside Subs serves up some great takeout food.

The pizza at Surfside is some of the best on Cape Ann with a nice thin crust that is cooked to perfection. Not to mention the portion size of their 18” Killa Pizza. It’s a legitimate meal that could satisfy even the hungriest hobbit for lunch and elevenses.

If you’re hankering for a pizza that rivals Frank Pepe’s white clam pizza, you’ll want to try out the Surfside 6 pizza. Topped with fresh sea clams, bacon, garlic sauce, mozzarella, romano, & fresh basil, this pizza is the perfect coastal indulgence.

Surfside also serves up a pretty tasty lobster roll, which they offer at a discounted price on Tuesdays.

As if that were not enough, you are right next to the Long Beach Dairy Maid, which serves up the wildest ice cream portions on Cape Ann, making it the perfect stop for both dinner and dessert!

Midori

Well, you already know about our affinity for sushi and Midori has some of the best sushi on Cape Ann, so it’s definitely gonna make the list of Best Takeout Restaurants on Cape Ann.

The place is a bit of a hole in the wall, and it certainly isn’t where Jiro Dreams of Sushi, but for occasional takeout it is definitely rotation worthy. Whether you are looking for Japanese food, Chinese food or Thai, Midori delivers both literally and figuratively.

One dish that we love is the Spicy Midori Tartar. We love pairing this dish with a side order of white rice and creating our own special little Poke Bowl! The sushi is always fresh and on point, the Pad Thai is flavorful, and you can’t go wrong with any of the classic Asian apps.

Virgilio’s

A Gloucester staple, Virgilio’s makes the list because they do things right. Authentic, high-quality ingredients, assembled with care and attention to detail.

For 3 generations the Virgilio family have provided fresh baked Scala, Semolina and Ciabatta breads and rolls to supermarkets across Cape Ann and those breads serve as the flavorful foundation of their delicious Italian sandwiches.

Virgilios Takeout

The Saint Joseph is their signature sandwich, but our favorite is the West Ender which includes Prosciutto Cotto seasoned with Rosemary, imported Provolone cheese, roasted red peppers, oil & oregano.

The other great part about Virgilio’s is that they have a bakery right on site as well that includes everything from Italian cookies to cannoli and lobster tails. Get a sandwich, pair it with something sweet and find a beautiful coastal view to enjoy.

Greg’s Pizza

Ok so sub shops are great when you are in a bind and need a significant caloric intake very quickly. You know it isn’t going to be Michelin star dining, but you can look forward to food that is filling and will help lower hanger to levels that are fit for reasonable human interaction.

Cape Ann certainly has its fair share of hybrid sub/pizza/roast beef shops to choose from. But one that we think stands out amongst the bunch is Greg’s Pizza. They have an extensive menu that truly has something for just about anyone. Greg’s offers everything from subs, pizza and calzones to lamb dinners, seafood platters, salads, and greasy apps galore.

We enjoy the steak tip salad, chicken Caesar salads, club sandwiches, mozzarella sticks, chicken tenders and we love their baklava. And, everything is delivered directly to your door, making it a convenient option. Admittedly, it’s not our go to for pizza, but there are plenty of other pizza spots to choose from in the area. There may even be one coming up on this list…dun dun dun!!

Tonno

Sometimes in life you just have to eat your feelings and there’s no denying that carbs equal comfort. For proof of this equation please see bread arriving at your table at a restaurant. It’s like the Red Sea was parted.

But that comfort is multiplied when those carbs come from homemade fresh cut Italian pasta dishes. On a cool fall or winter day there is nothing better than warming up to a hot dish of Tagliatelle Bolognese.

We love the Tonno pasta dishes and recommend pair them with their Tonno Tartare, Caesar Salad or Antipasto board for a delicious meal that will hit the spot and holds to a takeout car ride.
Tonno is one of our favorite Cape Ann Restaurants and one of the few that made the list for both best Cape Ann Takeout and best Cape Ann Restaurant.

Bravo By The Sea

Bravo by the Sea is the perfect spot to get your pizza fix! With two Cape Ann locations, one in Manchester By The Sea and one on Main Street in in Gloucester, Bravo is accessible from just about anywhere.

All of the pizza is wood-fired with fresh, authentic ingredients imported from Italy. No question Bravo serves up some of the highest quality pizza on Cape Ann.

The pepperoni pizza is overflowing with pepperoni, the fig prosciutto pizza is a sweet treat, but our favorite Bravo By The Sea Pizza has to be the Burrata and Pesto pizza. Give it a whirl, you won’t regret it!
