One of the first Rockport MA Hotels, the Emerson Inn hosted many notable artists, authors and poets including Henry David Thoreau and the hotel’s namesake, Ralph Waldo Emerson.
The history of the property dates back to the 1850’s when it originally served as a drinking establishment, before local legend Hannah Jumper kickstarted the temperance movement in Rockport.
Acquired by the Migis Hotel Group back in 2015, the property has received some updates, while maintaining its classic New England charm.

Yes, the Emerson Inn has a restaurant on site called Pigeon Cove Tavern. They serve classic coastal New England fare such as clam chowder, pan-seared cod and sea scallops. A great convenience for guests of the Rockport Inn who don’t want to make the drive into town.

Another classic Rockport hotel is the Yankee Clipper Inn. Located right down the road from the Emerson Inn on Pigeon Cove, the Yankee Clipper has a storied history of notable guests which include John Lennon, John F. Kennedy, Paul Newman and Betty Davis. So you’re in good company.
The art deco mansion was built back in 1929, and offers beautiful views of the Atlantic Ocean from the main house, making it one of the best Rockport MA hotels. Pro-Tip, the Clipper has 2 buildings one that is ocean front and the Bulfinch house across the street. Make sure to book a room with an ocean view. It’s spectacular.
Does the Yankee Clipper Serve Food & Drinks?
Yes, the Yankee Clipper serves a delicious full breakfast every morning. However, they do not have a full bar on site and they do not serve any other meals throughout the day.

Conveniently located, you can walk out the front door and be right next to the local art galleries, shops and restaurants. Just down the end of road is the delicious My Place By The Sea with a deck overlooking Sandy Bay! So cool that we had to include it on our list of Rockport MA hotels.
